Those were the highlights of the USA Ingredients Artisanal Gourmet Pizza Challenge, organized in association with the Pizza Group Italy and ICCA Dubai at the Gulfood 2023.
With creative use of USA Cheese, US poultry, US pears, Washington Apples, and USA potatoes, ten teams of renowned professional pizza chefs from Pizzerias in the UAE got a unique opportunity to bring together diverse ingredients, flavours, tastes, and cultures to create unique classic to contemporary artisanal gourmet pizzas.
Valerie R. Brown, Regional Agricultural Counselor, USDA, also part of the judging panel, lauded this challenge and its underlying theme. “We are thrilled to be a part of this unique challenge. The coming together of Pizza, originally an Italian Fare, and an amazing range of US Ingredients, such as US Cheese, US poultry, Washington Apples, US Pears, & US potatoes, saw innovation at its peak. Besides igniting creativity, this challenge has bridged cultures between regions and continents. It was one world for all.”
Alessio Alioto of Team Golositalia walked away with the top honors while Team Motorino Pizzeria walked away with the second prize and Team Venus Caesars Palace placed third.
